NO food or drink in the studio. Electrical and fire hazards-switch off at wall if any problem, follow instructions exactly. Trip hazards-cables-use extension leads, be tidy. Falling lights-heavy, glass could smash. Can be dark- exaggerates risk of all of the above. Work in a calm manner, don’t rush around. Make sure ladders are fully extended and not on top of a power lead. Lights and attachments can become very hot. Leave lights to cool down before packing up and wear gloves when adjusting them and when handling attachments. Equipment: Backgrounds Constant light/Tungsten- Filters/Flash/Daylight The modelling light Light meter: incident/reflected light Sync lead Camera settings: white balance, manual mode, lens hood, flash sync speed Grey card/colour checker Tripod/studio stand Reflectors Lighting attachments: reflector dish, snoot, honeycomb, soft box, brolly, gels, flags, barn doors. Techniques How to meter a scene: high key/low key Grey card/colour checker. Lightning ratio/subject contrast: subject brightness range Type of light: diffused, reflected, soft, hard Position of light: Direction, height, rim/side Flare, flagging 3 point lighting: key light, fill light, hair light Shutter speeds: multiple flashes, ambient light, drawing with light Controlling/organising the space.
